Designed for novice to intermediate-level playwrights, each class session will include an introduction of various playwriting tools, elements or tactics, followed by exercises to fully explore them. The goal is to help you write your story. No one can teach you how to write a play - there is no set way, no definitive “how to” or rulebook. Rather, what we can do is provide you with tools to begin writing your play, or to re-write it, and the confidence to trust your impulse and write the story you need to write.

San Diego Writers, Ink is proud to collaborate with Seema Sueko and Mo`olelo Performing Arts in offering this class.

Seema Sueko is the Co-Founder and Artistic Director of Mo`olelo. She directed Mo`olelo's 2006 award-winning production, Since Africa, The Adoption Project: Triad, and Permanent Collection. Some of her acting credits include Jennifer in The Intelligent Design of Jenny Chow at The Old Globe and Yale Repertory Theatre (KPBS Patt Award), Connie in A Chorus Line at Seattle's 5th Avenue Theatre, Mrs. Cratchit in A Christmas Carol at San Diego Repertory Theatre, and The Phoenician Women at NYC's The Ohio Theatre. She is a three-time winner of the Chicago "Jeff Citation" Award for her performances in the world premiere of Rebecca Gilman's The Crime of the Century (Best Actress in a Principal Role), The Waiting Room (Best Actress in a Supporting Role), and A Piece of my Heart (Best Ensemble). She received the KPBS Patt "McDonald Playwriting Award" and the Anti-Discrimination Committee's "Artistic and Cultural Achievement Award" for her script, and Mo`olelo's inaugural show, remains. She was commissioned by Mixed Blood Theatre in Minneapolis to co-write Messy Utopia, which received the Ivey Award 2007, and was recently commissioned by Mixed Blood again to write a play for young audiences on the theme of Islam in America. Seema holds an MA in International Relations from the University of Chicago, is a member of Actors' Equity Association, and was named one of the "50 People to Watch in 2005" by San Diego Magazine. She will be directing Since Africa at The Old Globe this 2008-09 season. Mo`olelo.net
