The month of January is named after the Roman god, Janus, who has two faces—one looking foward and one behind. In this workshop, we'll use a variety of journal techniques and writing exercises to look into the past—writing of the year just completed, and to peer into the future—exploring our intentions for the year just beginning.

For this workshop, bring something from the old year you want to remember (a photograph, a small token or memento) and something that evokes your intention for the new year. Bring your journal and writing materials (colored pencils or markers, photos, images, or other elements you'd like to include in your journal).

Judy Reeves is a writer and teacher who's kept journals and diaries throughout her life and who continues as a daily journal practitioner. She's written four books on writing, including A Writer's Book of Days and The Writer's Retreat Kit, and was a columnist for Personal Journaling magazine. She was founding member of Journal & Diary Enthusiasts (JADE), and served as director of their International Journal Conference. She also led workshops at last summer's Journal Conference in Denver. Judy teaches creative writing at UCSD Extension and is Executive Director of San Diego Writers, Ink.
